Camp Murray, WA – The 2016 Military Kids and Families Summit will take place on Friday, April 15, 2016 at the McGavick Conference Center at Clover Park Technical College in Lakewood, WA. The summit is titled “Making Connections” to Strengthen Military Families. The event targets social service providers in the Puget Sound area who serve military kids and families, including providers both on and off-base in the communities surrounding Joint Base Lewis-McChord and Camp Murray.
April is the month of the military child and April 15th coincides with the Governor’s proclamation honoring military kids. The goal of this summit is to bring on and off-base social service providers together to discuss how their work overlaps, and how we can all collectively better serve military kids and families in our communities. Among the areas that will be discussed during the summit are what resources are provided for military families at JBLM and Camp Murray, accessing crisis assistance on and off-base, community resources for military families off-base, and the network of information and referral services available for military families both on and off-base. Each of these areas will be discussed by a panel of functional experts in their areas, and time will be allotted for discussions, questions, and answers between the panelist and summit attendees. The summit will also include a youth forum centered on this year’s month of the military child theme, “Military Youth-Their Journey and Their Adventures.”
Current sponsors for the event are Washington National Guard Joint Services Support, Joint Base Lewis-McChord Armed Forces Community Services, South Sound Military and Communities Partnership, WA Department of Veterans Affairs, and United Way of Pierce County.
