Guest Presenters:
1. Kevin Glackin-Coley has worked in human services for more than twenty five years and has been the Director of the St. Leo Food Connection since March 2005. In that time he has helped expand their emergency food programs throughout Pierce County, including the Springbrook Mobile Food Bank and the Summer Meals program. He will be providing an overview of how the Food Connection and others are responding to the increased need for emergency food assistance in the Lakewood community.
2. Sonja Dahl, RN Lactation Coordinator with Franciscan Health System Breastfeeding Services. Washington State has one of the highest rates of breastfeeding in the nation. Sonja will present information on how breastfeeding helps improve the lifelong health of women and infants, including readiness to learn. She will describe recent legislation supporting breastfeeding and list ways you as a community member, health care provider, employer, spouse, parent, and/or grandparent can support breastfeeding success with those you care about. Lactation Services at St. Joseph Medical Center has a retail store for purchasing products to support breastfeeding and has Board Certified Lactation Consultants who evaluate and assist new mothers with some challenges that may occur during breastfeeding.
3. David A. Green, Program Specialist and Donald Lachman – Special Projects Coordinator with the Washington Department of Veteran Affairs. David Green is a Montana native transplanted to Southern California for over 30 years before returning to Montana to earn a master’s Degree in Public Administration. After a decade in the non profit world of domestic violence and sexual assault program support at the state coalition level, David moved to Tacoma in 2006 and was a contractor with the Violence Against Women office in Olympia. At the end of 2007 he became a Veteran Benefits Specialist dealing with incarcerated and homeless veterans in King County and South King County. In 2008 he took over the Pierce County Incarcerated Veteran’s program providing reintegration services and case management.
Donald Lachman is Special Projects Coordinator for the WA State Dept of Veteran Affairs
His portfolio for the Department includes developing Veterans services and partnerships in Pierce County,
as well as service improvements for our Veterans with traumatic brain injuries which is often referred to as the signature wound of the current war. Donald is a Veteran, serving in the army medical corp for almost 8 yrs during the Viet Nam war and a graduate of the U of W.
David and Donald will be talking about the needs of Veterans and opportunities for services. They will go over accomplishments of 2009 and discuss the “road ahead” for 2010-2011 for Veterans in Pierce County.
4. Sherry Cotton –Housing Specialist has been with WWEE since 1990. She initially began performing intakes for the REACH program, then worked with the Community Jobs Internships and now is a specialist with the housing programs. Sherry has the gift of compassion coupled with her sincere desire to help WWEE participants establish and achieve their goal of self-sufficiency. This combination has proved extremely successful over the past twenty years. Sherry will be offering a synopsis of all the services available through WWEE.

Do you have an annual OBE report due January 29, 2010? Is your program new to the OBE process and submitted its first annual report? Have you recently hired new staff that will play a role in the OBE reporting process? If you answered YES to any of these questions, please consider attending the upcoming optional OBE training. OBE Annual Report Brown Bag Training (OPTIONAL) – January 13, 2010, 11:00am to 1:00pm at Pierce County Community Services, 3602 Pacific Ave, Tacoma This training is designed to help programs: · Get their specific OBE Annual Report questions answered · Learn about common mistakes made in the report and how to avoid them · Talk with other funded programs about their report and other OBE issues · Receive individual technical assistance by PCFG staff Please go to www.co.pierce.wa.us/outcomes to learn more about OBE training opportunities and download OBE materials. MANDATORY ATTENDANCE for all newly funded agencies and new staff responsible for Outcome Based Evaluation (OBE). Please reserve a seat for this basic training by CALLING YOUR FUNDER.
When and Where: Thursday, January 14, 2010, 9 am to noon, in Conference Room A, at Pierce County Community Services, 3602 Pacific Ave, Tacoma 98418.
This class is limited to 30 attendees. See above for registration. This three hour course is offered twice yearly to accommodate the January/December or July/June contracting year’s calendar. If your program has a completed Data Collection Worksheet, please bring it with you, as well as all the training materials listed below. Course Goal: To show attendees the essential elements of Outcome Based Evaluation (OBE), and how to complete the Semi-Annual Data Sheets and Data Collection Worksheet (DCW). This introductory class is basic information for people who are new to the OBE process and its related forms.
Course Objectives: Upon completion of the training the attendees will be able to:
- Identify the components of a logic model
- Identify service strategies and stages from Outcomes Catalogue
- Understand the need to quantify indicator success with a measurement tool
- Identify data collection perspectives and appropriate tools
- Understand validity and reliability standards for measurement tools
- Identify data collection process which demonstrates measurable change
- Understand sampling options
- Know the components of the Semi-Annual Data Sheets
- Identify the essential elements of the Data Collection Worksheet
